Same-Sex Couple Family Building

At HRC Fertility, our physicians are dedicated to helping the LGBTQ+ community achieve their dreams of parenthood.

We offer various fertility procedures, from in vitro fertilization (IVF) for LGBTQ+ couples to IUI (intrauterine insemination) so that anyone can have the opportunity to be a parent.

Important Considerations During Family Planning

When discussing your family planning goals, it’s important that you are on the same page when it comes to:

  • Deciding on an egg or sperm donor (if necessary)
  • Working with an anonymous or related donor
  • Who will carry out the pregnancy or surrogacy

Once you and your partner have had a conversation about these things, it’s time to look into the different family-building options HRC Fertility can offer.

IVF For Gay and Lesbian Couples

Our LGBTQ+ friendly fertility centers offer IVF for same-sex couples. IVF involves combining the sperm and eggs in a laboratory setting and transferring the embryo back to the uterus. This is one of the oldest and most commonly used options in LGBTQ+ family planning.

During the IVF process, sometimes, one partner will provide the egg, and the other will carry the pregnancy or surrogates may be engaged to support the fertility journey for intended parent(s). Checking each individual’s hormone levels and performing a hysterosalpingogram (HDG) test will help determine the best option.

Gay couples have the two following options when it comes to IVF:

  • IVF, using donor eggs and sperm from one or both partners, the embryo is implanted into a surrogate.
  • IVF, using donor eggs and donor sperm, the embryo is implanted into a surrogate.

Lesbian couples can choose from the following different IVF options:

  • IVF, using the eggs of one partner and fertilized by a donor sperm, the embryo is implanted into the other partner.
  • IVF, using the eggs of one partner and fertilized by a donor sperm, the embryo is implanted into a surrogate.
  • IVF, using eggs from both partners and donor sperm, the embryos are implanted into both partners.
  • IVF, using eggs from both partners and donor sperm, the embryo is implanted into one partner.
  • IVF, using donor eggs and donor sperm, the embryo is implanted into one partner.
  • IVF, using donor eggs and donor sperm, the embryo is implanted into a surrogate.

Programs

HRC’s Southern California fertility clinics host one of the most successful donor egg programs in the United States and the world. We will help you find and select an egg donor that meets your individual needs.

HRC partners with trusted sperm banks and will help you select a donor that is right for you.

HRC Fertility partners with trusted surrogacy agencies and will help you select a surrogate that is perfect for you and your partner.

Same-Sex IUI

Another common lesbian pregnancy option available at HRC Fertility is same sex IUI.

IUI involves placing anonymous or known donor sperm inside the uterus of the individual who will carry the baby. Sperm goes through a sanitization process, is processed, and is concentrated before being placed in the uterus for an increased chance of pregnancy.

IUI is typically planned around the time of ovulation, and once a person’s follicles mature, an injection of hCG is given to stimulate ovulation.

Schedule a consultation with us today to learn more about how IUI may be a good fit for you and your partner.

Surrogacy For LGBTQ+ Family Planning

Surrogacy is a popular LGBTQ+ family planning option among gay couples and lesbian couples who may be facing fertility issues.

Surrogacy involves a person carrying out a pregnancy for the couple and can be a friend, family member, or volunteer. You may work with a surrogacy agency or find an independent surrogate. Either way, HRC Fertility is here to support your journey with medical screening for surrogacy. Added benefits of our services include:

  • Onsite surgery center to limit travel during treatment
  • Dedicated fertility doctor for personalized treatment
  • Phone or Skype consultations for international patients
  • Initial testing and monitoring at a local clinic near you
  • 7-10 days of treatment at an LGBTQ+ fertility center in an office of your choice

Third-Party Reproductive Options For LGBTQ+ Couples

We’re proud of how quickly our Third-Party Reproductive Program has been able to evolve.

The introduction of third-party conception has made it possible for LGBTQ+ couples to experience the joys of parenthood. This program includes the medical screening of egg donors and gestational surrogates along with partners, genetic parents, and recipient couples.

Included in this program is Gestational Surrogacy, an LGBTQ+ pregnancy option that may support many intended parents, such as for those who have undergone a hysterectomy, were exposed to DES, or have a congenital absence of the uterus, but whose ovaries are preserved.  Individuals who have had multiple miscarriages may also benefit from a gestational surrogate.
